In the U.S, the cost of having an Umbilical Hernia repair varies from 2,000 to 7,000 US Dollars.

Our network of hospitals offers you a significantly lower cost of Umbilical hernia repair and treatment. You can request for a detailed estimate using the estimate request form on this page.

Umbilical hernias are most common in infants, but they can affect adults as well. An umbilical hernia is an outward bulging (protrusion) of the abdominal lining or part of the abdominal organ(s) through the area around the belly button.

The bulge may range from 1 to 5 centimeters in diameter. If a baby has an umbilical hernia, one can notice the bulge only when he or she cries, coughs or strains.

The bulge may disappear when the baby is calm or lies on his or her back. If you suspect that your baby has an umbilical hernia, consult his or her doctor.

You need to seek emergency care if your baby appears to be in pain, begins to vomit or if the bulge becomes tender, discolored or swollen. Similar guidelines apply to adults.

Umbilical Hernia Treatment Surgery

Unless the defect persists past the age of 3 to 4 years, usually, no treatment is required. In extremely rare cases, bowel or other tissue can protrude and become strangulated (lack of blood flow to a section of bowel). This requires an emergency surgery.

An anesthesiologist gives your child general anesthesia, which relaxes your child’s muscles and induces sleep. The child will not feel pain during the surgery.

Then a small incision or cut, (from 2 to 3 cm) is made at the base of the belly button. The hernia “sac” containing the bulging intestine is identified and pushed into its appropriate place, behind the muscle wall.

The hernia sac is removed and the muscle wall is reinforced with multiple layers of stitches to prevent a recurrence. A bulky pressure dressing is applied over the incision to provide support to the repaired muscle and tissue.

Most children are allowed to go home a few hours after an umbilical hernia surgery. However, premature infants and children with certain medical conditions may need to spend one night in the hospital for observation.

Low Cost Umbilical Hernia Repair

Most people find U.S. umbilical hernia surgery charges beyond their budget. You can opt for low cost Umbilical hernia repair in countries like India, Mexico and Costa Rica.

In these countries the Umbilical hernia surgery is available at a fraction of the cost that is available in the United States.

Even though the cost of hernia surgery in these countries is significantly lower, the operating standards are at par with the best hospitals in the United States.
