A clinical study[1]used an RPE patch on patients with Age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This work supported the feasibility and safety of hESC-RPE patch transplantation as a treatment for AMD.
Another phase 1 study used autologous bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells for patients with hereditary retinal dystrophy.
It showed that the therapy did not have any adverse events and offers a promising treatment in this field.
