Dr. Serrato graduated from the Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon. He completed his residency in general surgery in the state of Sonora. He has also completed a fellowship in nutritional support. Dr. Serrato performs hundreds of surgeries every year including: cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), sleeve gastrectomy, hernioplasty-herniorraphy, endoscopic procedures, colon surgeries, and Nissen Plasty Surgery for reflux disease.

He is a member of the Mexican Association of General Surgery, the Sonora State Medical Federation, the Sonora State Mexican Society, and the Medical School of Hermosillo.
